About

I am a composer of electronic and acoustic music, a player of instruments stringed and electronic, and a scholar of compositional systems.  I began composing for orchestra after many years as a violin section player and my first orchestral piece was played while I was still an undergraduate.

I also play viola, guitar, mandolin and the West African kora.  I received an MFA degree from CalArts, known for being on the cutting edge of new musical performance practice and interactive media, but prior to that devoted a year to intensive study of counterpoint.

I’ve toured with modern dance company, performing my interactive electronic music live with the choreographed works.  I have produced pop songs, scored several films and provided music as performer/composer for the theater. I’ve worked as a session player, performed club dates with a charanga band.  This variety, a fairly typical melange of activities for a working musician in Los Angeles, has informed a more practical, less esoteric approach to working with performers.

These solitary bravura trip to this place that Jung valued above inheritance, law, and career aspiration have, however, produced audible realities. This site aims, for the time being, to place these realities within reach of the conscious, goal-oriented, timeline-centric world of people who want out, at least for a short time.

This, then, the Valedictory.

‘…good to eat a thousand years’.

(Allen Ginsberg, ‘Howl’)
