Way behind

Rather than navel-gaze about the origin of my lagging behind on blog or self-named site, this will have to suffice for now. Although there are millions of blogs and identity sites out there now, there was a time when the practice of keeping online notes for oneself seemed like the epitome of narcissism. Something for introverted shut-ins to be consumed with. ‘Take a road trip’, I wanted to tell them. An old friend who has had a stellar career as an internet pioneer, including the early days of nytimes.com,  was pilloried by the early bloggers for saying that reading them was like being forced to look at a friend’s scrapbook. Back then, she was right. No one I knew ever predicted that the medium would become so easily, er, ‘monetized’ is the parlance I believe that’s used nowadays.

Another friend who’s a true believer and has profited from online marketing of herself and her products swears that Google loves WP and daily blogging for 6 months or so gets rankings.

Like I care about rankings. Like the man said, however, ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’.
